What Is Organic Farming?

Organic food has been a serious topic of discussion among the citizens of our country. In this day of wide use of artificial and genetic modified food items, the organic foods show us a ray of hope. So before going to use organic food and adopt a way of organic life, we must know - what is organic farming? How such farming is done?

Organic farming means to produce food grains or items without using any artificial ingredients. That means all forms of synthetic chemical, preservatives and genetically modified organisms must be absent in the food material. Therefore, in nutshell we can say that organic farming means productionnof food following all natural methods. By practicing this method of food production we do a good deed in two ways. Firstly, we do not reduce the quality of our soil, or environment that means zero impact on the environment. Secondly, we take care of our health in a better manner by consuming these organic foods.

In recent years, emphasis has been put on the quality of the soil. Under this farming, the farmers try to leave the soil quality intact after producing the organic food materials. So now crops are increasingly produced without articficial fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides. Now also livestocks are bred without using hormones and drugs. Following the natural, method of production the quality and nutrition of food grain and food materials are well maintained.

All the developed countries including USA and Europe have adopted different methods of certification for the organic food producer. In this way the consumers of these countries get the benefit of using better organic food materials. The main principles, which are followed in the production of organic food, are: no use of artificial fertilizer and drugs, no genetically modified organisms, maintaining soil quality, following crop diversity. If these practices are followed strictly no doubt we will get better organic food and thereby will be able to lead a total way of organic life.
